Women, Beware! Nothing is Left Sacred!

Yes, yes, yes, I admit I’m a Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network fanatic enthusiast. Sunday is the day I do my most offending. My husband is usually at work, leaving me alone to hog the remote and watch movie after movie…usually in between tending to my kids’ every desire and doing laundry. So basically, I only see “bits and pieces” of the movies, but, hey, that’s how it is for mommies.

Well Lifetime and LMN usually have themes for the day or the weekend, so each movie revolves Continue reading

Skeletons Tapdancing From The Past

Since my birthday is coming up this Saturday, I thought about writing a post that would reflect on my life and accomplishments. Then I came right back to reality when I realized that there wasn’t enough space for me to tout all of that here. Just kidding!

I thought it would be fun to revisit the past. You know, the thing that most of us try to run away from because that’s where all our dumb mistakes live. Don’t worry, we won’t bring those skeletons out of the closet!

I was thinking more on the lines of taking a walk down memory lane and reflecting on things that have become obsolete. Things that once were the cat’s meow, so to speak. (By the way, I just used the last statemen Continue reading

When Your Last Starts Their Firsts

In a few short weeks my youngest will be heading off to kindergarten. Since my oldest went through this same scenario two years ago, you would think I would be “ok”. Well, I’m not. When my son went off to kindergarten I was excited that he was starting school and another part of his life. But with my daughter’s upcoming departure, there is something that lurks beneath the surface of my heart.

I can’t quite put my finger on my feelings. Deep down I know that I’m probably just being selfish. She is my baby…the last one I will ever have.  She is the youngest of our family of four. She is the last child I will carry in my womb. She is the last one I will ever breastfeed. The last one I will potty train. Ok, I know that she is five and that I have known all of those aforementioned proclamations for quite some time, but it’s like it’s the end of an era.

All mothers go through this, right? You know, when your last starts their firsts. After this go-around, there will be no more firsts. Your youngest child’s firsts are essentially your lasts.

And, yes, I know there will be other milestones that I will probably feel this same way, but for now, let me get my first tears in. Ok?

It’s Like Butta, Baby…Butterscotch, That Is

Geez, is it that hard to believe that I finally took the plunge? I pushed myself through fifteen years of prodding and teasing by my then boyfriend, now husband. He said I was scared and a chicken.  He said that I should have done it when he did, but I skipped out on the idea at the last minute. Sort of.

Are you wondering what the heck I’m talking about? Sure you are or else you wouldn’t still be reading this blog post waiting for me to get to the point.

Well, if you must know, I finally allowed someone to prick my virgin skin with their tattoo needles. Yes, I’ll admit I had held off because it looked painful as hell when my husband got his done fifteen years ago. I watched him go through the whole process and that was enough for me to say N-O! I don’t know why I finally decided to do it. It could have been hubby’s constant pestering or it could have been the fascination I got when I saw others with them. That part is not clear.

So the last few months I pondered over what kind of design I wanted to get. After all, this thing would be with me for the rest of my life. I just didn’t want to get any old thing. Did I want a butterfly, which I happen to love and would be colorful and beautiful? Or did I want the zodiac sign of Leo, for which I happened to be? It was very perplexing on what to get. Hey, I didn’t want to be an eighty-year-old woman years from now walking around with a skull and cross bones tattooed on my Continue reading

I’ll Have Picture Mail With A Side of Texting, Please

I have taken the most amazing picture of my kids with my camera phone and I instantly know I need to share it with some special people. I set it up to send it as picture mail: My husband, my dad, my mother-in-law, my sister and so on and so on. But as I run through my address book on my phone, I come to my mother’s number and pause.

My mom doesn’t do picture mail. Let me back up and elaborate further. My mom doesn’t do ANYTHING modern day people do. She doesn’t own a computer and wouldn’t know what to do with one if she did. She doesn’t have email. She doesn’t do FaceBook, MySpace or Twitter. Hard to believe in this day and time, isn’t it?

Her cell phone is basic and she doesn’t have a data plan. My sister and I have tried relentlessly to get her to text, but Mom is dead set against it. She says that she prefers talking via live conversation. Can you believe that? Sometimes you only have to tell someone one little thing. You don’t want to have to call, wait for them to answer, and end up getting more involved in a conversation you never planned, do you? Especially if the person is annoying. (Just kidding) Or worse, get their voice mail, have to leave a message and then have to wait for them to return your call. Then it becomes a game of phone tag when they try you back, you don’t answer, Continue reading
